Cork City have all but secured their place in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division for the 2020 season as they drew 0-0 with relegation rivals Finn Harps at Turner’s Cross on Friday evening.

A tame first half offered little in terms of goal scoring opportunities although Harps’ Tony McNamee did see a long range strike saved by Tadgh Ryan before City’s Karl Sheppard drilled a shot wide of the bottom left corner from a great position.

The home side had glorious opportunity to edge in front moments after the half time break but Conor McCormack’s poor penalty was saved by the feet of keeper Mark McGinley.

City pressed for a winner as the second period progressed but Gearoid Morrissey, Garry Buckley and Conor McCarthy all failed to find the back of the net.

Harps almost snatched the crucial goal late on but Daniel O’Reilly saw his header drop just wide of the bottom right corner before he also saw a long range strike tipped over the bar by Ryan.

The result means City remain seven points clear of Harps with a game in hand and their relegation rivals also only have just four games remaining to avoid a return to the First Division.
