Cork City are now six games without a win in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division as they were held to a scoreless draw by Sligo Rovers at Turner’s Cross on Monday afternoon.

Both sides had good chances to take the lead midway through the first half and shortly after Graham Cummins blasted over from a good position inside the area for City, Ronan Coughlan sent a free header straight at the keeper for Rovers.

City upped the tempo a little after the half time break with Daire O'Connor looking lively when introduced from the bench. He drilled a powerful strike into the side net from a difficult angle as City looked for a winner late on.

Their best chance went to fellow substitute Darragh Rainsford but after a brilliant first touch, he blasted the ball straight at goalkeeper Mitchell Beeney as Rovers hung onto earn a point.

The result leaves City in seventh place in the league table while Sligo remain in eighth.
