Cork City made it 11 wins from as many games at the beginning of the SSE Airtricity League as they narrowly defeated a spirited Bray Wanderers side at Turners Cross on Friday night.

A first-half penalty from Sean Maguire and a late Johnny Dunleavy header was enough to earn the Leesiders the victory at the expense of a spirited Bray side, who responded in vein with an injury time strike from Derek Foran.

Cork started the game brightly and they were given the perfect opportunity to take the lead after 11 minutes when Derek Foran fouled Ryan Delaney in the box, allowing Sean Maguire to calmly strike into the bottom left corner from the penalty spot.

The Premier Division leaders continued to press but it wasn’t the 88th minute that they doubled their advantage when substitute Johnny Dunleavy rose highest to tower a header into the left corner.

Bray continued to battle and they snatched what proved to be a consolation deep into injury time thanks to a close range header from Derek Foran. But Cork hung on the seal the three points that sees them stretch their lead at the top of the league to 12 points.
