A strong second half performance from Cork City saw them secure a comeback victory against Galway United at Turner's Cross on Friday evening.

This hugely entertaining game burst into life in the 5th minute when Galway took a surprise lead. A long throw on the right by Ludden was nodded on and found the feet of Gavan Holohan. He set himself well and held off the defender to strike low into the corner.

Galway almost doubled their lead minutes later as a ball over the top found Cunningham but his effort was tipped around the post by McNulty. Despite having more possession, it wasn't until the 25th minute that Cork managed a real effort on goal when Steven Beattie struck over from 25 yards out.

Another chance for Cork came and went after Dooley found himself in on goal but after rounding Winn he took the ball too far out before he could finish. Cork emerged with renewed purpose in the second half.

They dominated proceedings and got their reward in the 54th minute when a long range strike by Buckley beat Winn to bring Cork level. From there, Galway had no answer to the pressing football of Cork and in the 67th minute Cork led through an og from Lee Grace. A cross into the box by Beattie was met by the head of Sheppard. The ball beat Winn and despite the best efforts of Grace he could only divert it into his own net.

Galway almost snatched a draw at the death when a Grace header struck the post but Cork survived that scare to move 18 points clear of Dundalk and one step closer to the league title.
