Cork City made it eight wins from eight at the start of the new Airtricity League season as they comprehensively defeated Derry City at Turners Cross on Friday night.

Goals from Garry Buckley, Karl Sheppard and Sean Maguire was enough to see John Caulfield’s side maintain their winning run which see them remain top of the division by six points. 

The hosts deservedly took the lead after 35 minutes when Stephen Dooley charged down the left flank before pulling the ball back for Garry Buckley to neatly turn home from a few yards. 

City continue to pile forward in the second half and they doubled their advantage when Karl Sheppard raced onto a sensational through ball from Gearoid Morrissey before calmly tucking the ball under the on rushing Gary Doherty. 

And the Leesiders sealed the win, which equalled their best ever start to a League of Ireland season, after 65 minutes as the ball broke kindly to Sean Maguire in the box and the league’s top scorer made no mistake, expertly clipping the ball past the keeper and into the far bottom left corner.
