Cork City stretched their unbeaten run in the SSE Airtricity League to 18 games as they defeated Limerick in the Munster Derby at Turners Cross on Friday evening.

Preston North End bound Sean Maguire fired his side into the lead after 24 minutes when he headed Karl Sheppard’s cross into the net from close range.

Limerick levelled within moments as City keeper Mark McNulty tripped the returning Chiedozie Ogbene in the box, allowing Roderigo Tosi to blast the penalty into the top right corner.

City retook the lead shortly before the half time break when Stephen Dooley rifled an unstoppable effort into the net via the far post. Maguire doubled his side’s advantage, notching his 18th league goal of the season in the process, within 16 seconds of the restart when he rounded the keeper and rolled home following a poor back pass from Robbie Williams.

And City sealed the victory late on when Jimmy Keohane drilled a stunning effort into the net again off the post to maintain the Leesiders 18 point lead at the top of the division.
