Finn Harps took all three points in the first north west derby of the year as they walked away with a 2-0 victory.

Ollie Horgan fancied his side chances before the game and he was proven right after a fantastic performance from the Ballybofey team. Jonny Bonner was taken off in the first half after picking an injury and BJ Banda entered the field of play.

The striker made an instant impact for Harps as he chased down every ball and changed the wave of play in Harps favor. Defensive errors have cost Derry in recent matches and they cost the Candystripes again tonight.

After struggling to get rid of the ball BJ Banda had a shot on goal, which deflected off Scot Whiteside, and Gerard Doherty could do nothing as it went over his head and into the back of the net just before the interval.

It had to be a big team talk from Kenny Shiels at half time if his side were going to get anything from the game. Derry City are clearly lacking confidence at the moment and it showed as they didn't offer much going forward and the creativity of their play shown at the start of the season was clearly lacking again tonight.

With ten minutes to go, Finn Harps doubled their lead. It was Michael Funston, who stayed composed in front of goal after a Gerard Doherty saves, and he put it into an empty net. It was a fantastic night for Finn Harps who move up to sixth place and they give themselves a bit of breathing room from the relegation zone.

This is Derry City's third loss in a row under Kenny Shiels and he will have to pick his side up again for Monday night against Galway United in EA Sports cup.
