Dundalk severely outclassed Derry City for the second time in seven days as they repeated their feat of last week and ran out 4-0 winners at Maginn Park.

Kenny Shiels knew that second place was still a possibility if they could turn over the Lilywhites in Buncrana, but they now find themselves 10 points behind Dundalk.

Robbie Benson started Dundalk first half rampage after 24 minutes when he found space in on goal after John Mountney picked Benson out fantastically.

Former Foylesider Patrick McEleney was well on his game against his former side and he outrageously found McMillan, who doubled Dundalk's lead with a superb volley one minute later.

Benson secured his brace when Michael Duffy had a shot from distance, which was saved by Doherty, but Benson was there for the rebound. Dundalk put the game beyond Derry City just before half-time.

John Mountney got Dundalk's fourth after 41 minutes gone when Duffy played a sublime cross into the Derry penalty area.

It was a week to forget for the Candystripes after conceding eight goals against Stephen Kenny's Dundalk in the space of seven days, but they still find themselves two points ahead of Shamrock Rovers in third spot.
