Dundalk took another huge step towards sealing European football for next season with a 2-1 victory at Derry City.
All goals in the entertaining encounter at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium came in the first-half as Derry's faint hopes of European football faded with defeat.
Dundalk started at a incredible pace and took the lead after seven minutes. Greg Sloggett, at his former club, found Sean Murray who rifled a shot to the top right hand corner for his first league goal for the Lilywhites since scoring the opener at the Brandywell in March 2019.
The away side doubled their lead in the 15th minute. The Candystripes were caught out from a short goal kick routine with Conor Clifford’s attempted pass back to goalkeeper Peter Cherrie and it was punished by Jordan Flores who found the net.
The game was on once again just three minutes later. Aaron McCarey was caught out when he came for Adam Hammill’s free kick with Ciaran Coll getting a header in that was blocked on the line by David McMillan but Darren Cole fired home the rebound.
A fantastic contest throughout the second-half, McCarey had to be at his best to deny a couple of long-range efforts late on but Dundalk go into the UEFA Europa League this week with a win under their belts.
