Aaron McEneff’s double secured a much-needed three-points for Derry City as they saw off a wasteful Bray Wanderers at the Brandywell, finishing 2-0.

Derry City started the more dangerous of the two sides and they almost took the lead after 9 minutes. Jack Doyle powered past Dylan Hayes down the left flank before providing an excellent low cross into the path of Rory Patterson but the forward failed to make a sufficient connection.

Bray Wanderers responded on 11 minutes when Daniel Kelly put one on a plate for Ryan Coughlan, who failed to produce the finish it deserved, instead giving Gerard Doherty a goal kick.

Bray’s profligacy in the opening 30 minutes cost them five minutes from the break when Cory Galvin brought down Jamie McDonagh inside the box. McDonagh had been causing havoc for the Bray defence the entire first interval but his good work was cancelled out repeatedly by his attacking teammates' lack of grit in front of goal.

The wide-player went on an impressive dash only to be brought down inside the box, which left Tomas Connolly with an easy decision. Aaron McEneff did what he usually does from the penalty spot to give City a narrow advantage at the break and secure his ninth league goal of the season.

In the second half, the robust Galvin was shrugged off the ball by Derry’s defensive duo of Eoin Toal and Peers, which left the Mark Farren Stand holding their breath expecting a penalty to be rewarded to the Seagulls.

The Brandywell was brought to life when Jamie McDonagh almost scored a stunning effort after 82 minutes. The full-backs long-range effort from his own half caught Lynch off guard, but it luckily rebounded off the post and into the hands of the Bray goalkeeper.

The Candystripes wrapped up the league fixture four minutes from time. Aaron McEneff went into double digits for the season when he curled in a stunning effort on the edge of the penalty area to give Derry City a much needed three points.
