Dangerous Derry City walked away with all three points at Maginn Park as they beat Drogheda 4-0.

The Candystripes started slowly, but got the lead through Ronan Curtis just before the interval.

Drogheda United had their own chances in the first half, but Stephen Elliott couldn't finish a number of one on one situations in what were Drogheda’s best chances of the game.

It was a poor performance from Drogheda on what was a very wet day at Maginn Park and they fell to their third defeat in a row.

The second half started slow, but it was Derry City who took the game to Drogheda after the hour mark, and from there it was all about Barry McNamee, who got his first hat-trick for the Candystripes.

A short distance goal from McNamee was followed by a fantastic 25-yard strike, which went straight past McGuinness, and a couple of minutes later McNamee stepped up again to take a long distance free-kick and he beautifully curled it into the top corner of the net and left Drogheda keeper McGuinness with no chance.

Kenny Shiels will take a lot of confidence from that performance and he will now lead his side out again at Maginn Park on Tuesday against Limerick.
