Derry City took all three points at Maginn Park as they beat Sligo Rovers 4-0 at Maginn Park in Buncrana.

The game didn’t start as lively as anticipated, but it soon sparked into life when Lukas Schubert scored his second goal of the season just after the half-hour mark. The Austrian was there to meet the rebound after Aaron McEneff had a close-range effort saved by Schlingermann.

The Candystripes doubled their lead after 61 minutes when Rory Patterson found Ronan Curtis on the edge of the box and the winger brilliantly stuck it in the bottom corner of the Sligo net. Sligo Rovers completely gave up in the second half and Gerard Lyttle was fuming with his players.

The Bit o’ Red completely lost their shape midway through the second period and it was far too easy for The Foylesiders in possession. The Candystripes were awarded a penalty after 73 minutes and birthday boy Aaron McEneff didn’t need to be asked twice before he put it away.

Rory Holden got Derry’s fourth goal of the match and his first ever career goal for the Candystripes. The midfielder, who has been with the club since the age of 14, calmly put away his brilliant individual effort. It was an emphatic win for The Candystripes and they now moved two points behind Bray Wanderers with a game in hand.
