Cabinteely took another big First Division scalp this evening as they defeated Drogheda United 4-1 at United Park.

Cabo looked brighter on the ball early on and Rob Manley’s downward header picked out Jack Watson 10 yards from goal but he failed to connect with his strike.

A first half of few chances was turned on its head after the break as Paul Skinner collided with Manley in the area and the Cabo forward made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Drogheda squandered a fine chance to level seconds later but Luke McNally headed wide with the goal at his mercy. The visitors doubled their lead on 72 minutes as Kieran Marty Waters hung the ball up to the back post where Manley powered the ball home.

It was game over with ten minutes left to play as Luke Heeney conceded a second penalty giving former Drogheda forward Manley the perfect chance to complete his hat trick.

Drogheda quickly pulled a goal back through Mark Hughes’ long range strike but Cabinteely restored their three goal advantage at the death as Luke Gallagher diverted the ball into his own net.

Cabinteely will be looking to build on this next week when they host Limerick while Drogheda travel to face Galway United.
