Cork City continued their perfect start to the season as they made it three wins from three by beating ten man Drogheda United 4-1 at United Park.

The visitors took the lead on seven minutes through Sean Maguire but Drogheda levelled against the run of play as Stephen Elliott flicked the ball beyond Mark McNulty from close range.

Drogheda were reduced to ten men only two minutes later as referee Derek Tomney dismissed midfielder Richie Purdy for a late challenge on Steven Beattie.

With a man advantage, Cork retook the lead on the stroke of half-time as Gearoid Morrissey tapped home from a corner-kick and they completed the scoring at the death through substitute Conor Ellis to keep pace at the top.
