Drogheda, buoyed by their victory away to Galway United last week, started brightly and they took the lead on nine minutes as Chris Lyons crossed for Luke Gallagher to head home.

Lyons went close to a second for Drogheda as he saw his close range shot parried before Mark Doyle was denied by Owen McCormack. The Wexford captain then made a vital contribution at the other end as he tapped home the equaliser following pinball in the Drogheda penalty area.

A series of yellow cards followed in the second-half before Wexford were reduced to 10 as Sean Callan was shown a second yellow for a late challenge on Mark Doyle.

Doyle was to have the final say though as he latched onto Kevin Farragher’s long ball to poke the ball beyond Corey Chambers for the winner. Drogheda will be looking to build on successive wins when they travel to Athlone Town next Friday while Wexford host Longford Town.
