Bray Wanderers as they have done so in the past have proved to be Dundalk's bogey team with a 3-1 victory over Oriel Park.
In a stirring second half which ignited into life, Bray's Gary McCabe converted two penalties and Ryan Brennan added a third to take the points home to the sea side.
The first half was a bright one with Dundalk going close on several occasions but Peter Cherrie in the Bray goal proving to be resolute in goal. However a brilliant curling effort from McEleney with some good link up play nearly saw Dundalk take the lead but to no avail.
Chris Shields also had a good opportunity to give the home side the lead but his effort went wide. The second half sprung into life and sent Oriel in silence when Bray were awarded a penalty. Gary McCabe slotted it home much to the dismay of the home crowd but Dundalk were not behind for long.
Stephen O'Donnell a second half sub was at the end of a brilliant move which saw him lift it over Cherrie. McCabe however restored the lead for Bray after another penalty was awarded.
The third goal followed shortly after with a bit of fortune, Ryan Brennan slotted home after some confusion in the box. If Dundalk are to stop Cork's rise to the top they are going to have to do it the hard way. Come the end of the season will Dundalk feel they paid the penalty?
