Goals from Dane Massey and Patrick McEleney either side of the half ensured another three points for Dundalk as the Lilywhites are now in full steam preparation for the visit of Norwegian powerhouse Rosenberg.

Dundalk flew out of the traps with attempts from Jamie McGrath and David McMillan going close for the home side. The latter saw his effort come off the post as the hit man was looking to score goal number 13 of the season. However the goal would come from captain of the night Dane Massey.

From a Michael Duffy corner, Dane Massey rose highest to head home to put Dundalk in the lead. The home side continued to press with their build up play and passing was excellent tonight, Benson linked up well with McEleney as Dundalk continue to find their groove. This all happening under the watchful eye tonight of former Dundalk players Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan.

A quiet moment fell on Oriel as it the floated into the Dundalk area as Faherty who has a knack of scoring big goals against Dundalk was nearly at the end of a deep lying cross from the left.

The second half began quite like the first with a brilliant outside of the boot pass from Shields was met by McMillan who tried to round Winn but the keeper was brave and blocked the attempt on goal. Moments later however it was two with three goals in three games as McEleney slotted home after a scramble in the box, a cross in from the left by Duffy kicked off the attack.

As the game petered out there was further celebration with tonight saw John Mountney come on for his 200th appearance for Dundalk FC in his six seasons with the club. He and Chris Shields are the last members of that 2012 squad to remain at Oriel.

Dundalk remain on course for second but this was a vital win in their question to hit the ground running in Europe.
