Dundalk rode their luck, had an abundance of corners but in the end won well in what was a greatly contested game in the SSE Airtricity League.

Robbie Benson with a wonder goal and a killer blow from Marco Tagbajumi sealed the tie for the Lilywhites as Dundalk maintain pole position in the league. Dundalk began proceedings on the front foot and despite the abundance of chances, especially corners they could not convert thanks to some resolute defence from the blues.

McGrath and Benson both had fantastic chances to put the whites in the lead but both efforts went over the bar. Dean O'Halloran tried his luck for the blues with a half volley only for his effort to be well saved by Rogers.

Dundalk would get their just rewards for their effort with a terrific strike by Robbie Benson, his curling effort was brilliantly scored but what was the best part? The fantastic forward run by Chris Shields to set the phase of play up that led to the goal.

Dundalk pressed for a second in the second half but they left it very late to convert. After both Duffy and Hoban missed great chances it was substitute Marco Tagbajumi who would seal the tie.

Seconds later, Sander Puri will be left wondering what could have been after he struck the post, Duffy took the quick lay off from Rogers and Marco did the rest.
