A goal at the start and a goal at the end of the second half earned Dundalk a much needed victory over Cork City as the balance of scales tipped once again in Stephen Kenny's sides favour.

In a very tense and tight affair it was always going to be the finest of moments that will clinch it. The first half while exciting and full of attacking flair there were very little clear cut chances to write home about.

A signature of these games to date has been the most minute of mistakes taken advantage of. While Hoban and McNamee had the best chances to put their respective sides in the lead, both Rogers and McNulty were equal to the task.

The second half burst into life within its infant seconds when Kristain Adojan latched onto a Michael Duffy pass, he took it in his stride and with the cleanest of strikes sent it flying past McNulty into the right hand corner.

To Cork's credit they now knew that the game had to be taken to the Lilywhites and they got their just rewards. A ball lofted into the area mid way through the second half by Bennett was met by Josh O'Hanlon and he made no mistake powering a header past Rogers.

Dundalk sensing that a win was needed and draw simply wouldn't do took the game to Cork and after much labour they got their reward. At the seconds edged the ninety, Ronan Murray sent the ball into the near post and Hoban put bravery and his body on the line and headed it past McNulty to give Dundalk the three points and made them top of the pile.
