A brace from Ronan Murray and Jamie McGrath ensure safe passage for Dundalk FC to the next round of the FAI Cup as they banished the shock defeat to their opponents on Monday with a comfortable victory at Oriel Park.
While Cobh looked to threaten to cause another upset the Lilywhites showed their cup experience to ensure no slips up at this early stage to the Aviva. Dundalk almost got off to the perfect start as Michael Duffy's low effort looked goal bound only for an excellent save on the line by Adam Mylod.
Dundalk were almost made pay for that miss as the outstretching Gary Rogers pulled off a great save to deny Jaze Kabia. As the half wore on Cobh huffed and puffed at Dundalk but it was the killer touch by the impressive Ronan Murray that sent the Lilywhites ahead, Duffy's cross was too inviting and he toe pocked it home to send the home side ahead.
The second half was barely alive when Jamie McGrath doubled the Lilywhites lead, his clever take down of Jarvis cross was sent to the bottom right and Mylod could do nothing to stop it. Denzil Fernandes was the next to test the gloves of Rogers with a strong hit from the edge of the area which Rogers duly saved.
Dundalk however clinched the tie in the embers of the game as Ronan Murray got his second as Sean Gannon sent in a great cross with pace and Murray once again applied the finishing touch.
