With every team that gets a new manager there is always the fear of the 'bounce' could derail the opposition.

That wasn't the case tonight as Dundalk put in a performance that ensures that Maciej Tarnogrodzki's UCD were in no illusuons of the task that faced them at Oriel Park.

In the first of two games against the Students this week, the home side got off to the perfect start as 130 seconds were on the clock when Dundalk side struck the lead.

Michael Duffy took the ball forward, spotted a gap and unleashed an unstoppable effort to allay any fears in the home crowd.

Dundalk continued to press with Patrick Hoban in menacing form and the frontman testing the UCD defence at every turn. He turned provider when he raced down the right and placed an inch-perfect cross to Duffy who scored his second on the night.

The frontman got his just rewards with the third goal of the game when Duffy provided Hoban with a perfect cross and he applied an excellent finish.

The writing was on the wall for another difficult second half for the Students but despite Dundalk's dominance they couldn't turn possession into goals.

The sides meet again on Friday with Dundalk hoping to continue a rich vein of form in order to keep those vital steps forward towards that league title.
