Dundalk advance to the Semi-Finals of the EA Sports Cup as they despatched UCD in a game which the home side will rue missed chances and the away side rue missed opportunities.

While Dundalk dominated possession, the away side had their fair share of chances of taking a scalp on the current league leaders. Collie O'Neill's side was an equal footballing match at Oriel Park.

The contest looked all but over at the half time, goals from Brian Gartland and John Mountney had settled any nerves in the crowd and Dundalk just got into a grove as they continued to create chances which saw the post and goalkeeper Gavin Sheridan stop them at every turn.

Gartland's goal was one from the highlight reel, a classic header from a corner to set Dundalk on their way, Mountney's was a little bit different from his usual. He broke free of the offside trap, his finish under pressure from Sheridan was one that even Hoban would have been impressed with.

Yoyo Mahdy capitalised on some unusual defensive mix-ups to slot past McCarey who was excellent for Dundalk tonight. While the goal scoring wasn't finished there, Georgie Kelly applied a smart finish to seal the tie in the dying embers of the game.

Once again Dundalk strike late which shows superior fitness and application to the game. Dundalk players will donate their day's wages to Temple Street in a charitable donation for the hospital as part of an ongoing campaign.

You feel that this jersey donning the logo of the children's hospital could be one of good luck and fortune.
