Dundalk secured their fifth Semi Final in six seasons following a comprehensive win over Drogheda United at Oriel Park.

Goals from Michael Duffy, the impressive Dylan Connolly, Brian Gartland and David McMillan ensured Dundalk are one step closer to the Aviva. Dundalk were nearly caught on the hop after great half volley from Thomas Byrne saw great save from Rogers to tip it over from a corner, thats as good as it got for Drogheda as the home side turned on the style.

With five minutes on the clock Duffy took advantage of some hesitation in the Drogheda defence and he lobbed it over McGuinness to give Dudalk side the lead. Some excellent build up play by Dundalk followed with a cross from the right by Gannon saw the onrushing Benson and Duffy come close before it was put wide for a corner.

The home side didn't have to wait long as Dylan Connolly took control of the ball on the edge of the area and hits a great curling effort which flew past McGuinness to make it two. The second half started as the first ended, with Dundalk on the front foot and McMillan stole the ball and broke free of the Drogheda defence his shot however went wide.

Following a free kick from Duffy Gartland headed home from close range and the game was Dundalk's for certain. It was to go from bad to worse for Drogheda as Dundalk continued to press and got a penalty with McMillan who worked extremely hard all night got his just rewards by converting the spot kick.

Drogheda will take stock from a hard working performance but for Dundalk its imperative a strong end of the season continues if they have any hope of silverware.
