The banners aloft in Oriel Park proudly proclaimed the 2018 SSE Airtricity League title and the fans were treated to a Champions performance following a 5-0 over Sligo Rovers.

The first half belonged to John Mountney, the boy from the sleepy village of Bohola who got his 20th and 21st goals for the club. The midfielder showed the Dundalk faithful why he has signed for the Lilywhites for another two years with a sublime lob over McGinty to open the scoring.

The midfielder will spend a total of nine years of Oriel Park thus far and no signs of changing.

The second-half belonged to Pat Hoban. After the first-half of frustration, the striker hit a brace of goals that will bring him to the cusp of the league record.

As things stand Dundalk broke the league points total record set by Bohemians but Hoban equalled Brendan Bradley's goals record and will be looking for magic No.30 in the final game of the season. Dundalk continued to press with the in-form Dylan Connolly proving to be a handful for the Sligo rearguard.

For now, Dundalk will focus on Bohemians and then a cup final date with Cork City, the familiar Aviva foe. But for tonight, its celebrations aplenty as Dundalk deservedly are crowned SSE Airtricity League champions.
