A brace from Patrick Hoban and goals from Ronan Murray, Michael Duffy and Jamie McGrath set Dundalk on course to be on equal points with Cork City. Dundalk found it very difficult in the first half to hit the back of the net with none other than eleven occasions the Lilywhites had the goal at their mercy by Hoban, Hoare and Duffy all saw their efforts squandered as it looks liked to be one of those nights for the Lilywhites. One of the critics of this Dundalk side is the lack of clinical finishing. Well they answered that question in the second half. From the kick off Hoban latched onto a midfield pass from Benson and his speculate effort took a wicked deflection, it bobbled past Murphy and into the back of the net. His second goal saw some resolute defending from St Patricks Athletic come undone, as they tried to clear the ball it fell to Hoban's feet and he didn't need a second opportunity. Hoban turned provider for the third as he laid the ball off to Ronan Murray and with some quick thinking he lashed it into the back of the net. The next goal was a goal that will be contender for the goal of the season as Michael Duffy on the left cut inside and hit a 25 yard curling effort that nestled into the top corner. Dundalk's winger now has seven goals and six assists this season. Moments later it was five as Jamie McGrath latched onto a Duffy cross to score against his former employers. 1000 League points as Manager for Stephen Kenny, he can put it down as one of the best.
