Cork City extended their lead the top to 17 points after a very hard fought victory over Finn Harps, with the last three games at Finn Park between these two sides ending 1-0 Cork.

The Leesiders continue their charge towards the League title with only 4 points needed from their final 7 fixtures, with potential decider currently against Dundalk although that could change.

Cork City were keen to bounce back from the defeat to Sligo and started brightly with Kieran Sadlier whipping in several crosses in the early exchanges but Finn Harps defence held firm.

As the first half drew to a close Cork continued their dominance against a resilient Harps side who gathered momentum as the first half went on but the sides went in goalless at the interval.

Cork came out in the second half with a steely determination to score, with Karl Sheppard having a few pops at goal but the game remained level. That changed in the 70th minute with Garry Buckley breaking the deadlock, a corner was whipped in a headed off the post by Delaney, it fell kindly for Buckley who fired his side in front.

The skies opened with 20 minutes to go as Harps searched for an equalizer but Mark McNulty was rarely tested in the Cork goal with Timlin mustering up his sides best chance during the final minutes.

Buckley squandered a chance for a brace late on but his side come away from Ballybofey with the 3 points.
