Finn Harps will have to win on the final day of the season and hope results go their way to avoid the promotion/relegation play-off final after defeat to Shamrock Rovers.

In terrible conditions at Ballybofey, the SSE Airtricity League Champions secured all three points with goals from Joey O'Brien and Max Murphy either side of the break.

It was a scrappy goal to open the scoring. The pitch meant the ball would hold up throughout the match and after a corner was driven in, the ball bounced around and O'Brien eventually turned the ball home in the 33rd minute

Harps tried to make the conditions work to their advantage but Rovers secured the win with just over 20 minutes remaining. Substitute Murphy came onto the pitch to make his senior debut for the club and he capped his debut with a goal with a fine right-footed effort into the corner from the edge of the area.

The result means Finn Harps stay in ninth position going into the final day of the season knowing they need to beat Waterford to have any chance of avoiding the promotion/relegation play-off final.
