Galway United made the relegation battle just a little bit tighter after winning the six-pointer against Finn Harps.

The win moves Galway up 10th but they now only sit one point behind St. Pat's and two behind Harps. Galway started the game brightly and took the lead through Gavan Holohan in the 13th minute despite the best efforts of Mailey.

Finn Harps were awarded a penalty just shy of the 30 minute mark. Eddie Dsane stepped up and fired to the right side but Winn guessed correctly to make a smart save. Dsane made amends on the stroke of half time though with a close range header for his 4th in 5 games as the teams went in level at the break.

During the opening exchanges of the second half Finn Harps were reduced to 10 men as Paddy McCourt was sent off for a second bookable offence. Galway seized the chance and made their man advantage tell on 76 minutes with a sumptuous free kick from Ronan Murray. They were not finished there though as Murray grabbed a second on the 83rd minute to seal the win.
