Cork City 5-0 Drogheda United
Cork City returned to winning ways in the SSE Airtricity League as they comprehensively defeated Drogheda United at Turners Cross on Friday night. A brace Sean Maguire and Karl Sheppard, as well as a neat finish Jimmy Keohane, was enough to deservedly see City stretch their unbeaten run to fourteen league games. The Leesiders started the game brightly and it took them just 11 minutes to break the deadlock, thanks to a tidy, close range finish from Jimmy Keohane.
City doubled their lead after 20 minutes when Johnny Dunleavy’s cross from the right was flicked into the far, bottom left corner by Sean Maguire. Stephen Dooley’s cross allowed Karl Sheppard to fire in the third from a few yards before the winger capped an incredible period of the game, where the league leaders grabbed three goals in just four minutes, when his sensational lob found the far corner of the net. Sean Maguire completed the scoring just past the hour mark, drilling a low shot into the bottom left corner for his thirteenth league goal of the season, to seal an impressive victory for Cork.
