Galway United suffered their third loss in their last four matches as goals from Finn Harps' Jesse Devers and another from Mark Timlin was enough to seal an away win.

The result sees Galway slip down to sixth while Harps move up to fourth in the First Division table.

From as early as the 11th minute, Harps stole the lead through Devers after a lovely pass found him in space behind cover - and his first touch was enough to beat Connor Gleeson.

Harps' Sam Todd tried to double the lead, while United's Alan Murphy tried to level the score - the United veteran struck the crossbar with a thunderous effort, but at the break Ollie Horgan's men were ahead.

Seven minutes after the restart and Timlin's free kick from the far side went through a wall of bodies in the box to give Harps a two-goal lead.

The outstanding Ciaran Coll was called upon to clear an effort off the line late on before Gary Shanahan hit the crossbar - but it was Conor Barry who denied Harps a clean sheet. Nevertheless, the late rally wasn't enough to undo the visitors' good work.
