Two goals apiece from Jamie Doyle and Dylan McGlade sealed a comfortable 4-1 victory for Longford Town over Galway United at Eamonn Deacy Park.

The victory will boost Longford's promotion hopes, while for Galway it will be a disappointing blow as they were denied three home wins in a row as well as a chance to leapfrog De Town.

Doyle produced the breakthrough in the 15th minute when he turned home a Darren Meenan cross from the right flank just six yards out to send the travelling fans wild.

Conor Barry and Eoin McCormack worked hard for United, but the visitors held firm until half time. Just five minutes after the restart and Doyle was at it again, doubling his team's lead with a long-distance left-footed scorcher.

McGlade made it 3-0 some five minutes later after he cut in from the left flank to rifle past Ryan. From there, United rallied with some energetic play, but couldn't score - and Neale Fenn's troops pounced once again, through McGlade, when the attacking midfielder capitalised on a loose Alex Byrne clearance to score a 25-yard screecher in the 78th minute.

Carlton Ubaezuonu scored in the 95th minute, but it was only a consolation. United's promotion hopes are in tatters - Longford will enjoy the trip back home.
