Shane Keegan picked up his first competitive win as manager of Galway United as they overcame Mayo League in EA Sports Cup action.

Late goals in either half proved the story of the night as David Cawley scored the first, assisted by Gary Shanahan before Vinny Faherty added another in the 92nd minute.

In a game of few chances or incidents, United were marginally the better side in front of the home crowd, Jesse Devers striking the post in the second half arguably the biggest talking point outside of the goals.

Mayo League, to their credit, played some good football - James O' Donnell stung Ciaran Nugent's fingers with a free kick early on and they battled hard throughout, but Galway took the chances they needed to advance to the next round.
