A calm evening in Galway City was interrupted by a thunderous game at Eamonn Deacy Park where Galway United left it late to claim a 2-1 win over Longford Town on Friday night.

The home side had a calamitous start in the first half when a miscommunication between Maurice Nugent and Kevin Horgan lead to Dean Byrne storming in and nicking the lead for the visitors in the 12th minute.

The Tribesmen fought back in the second half and claimed an early goal through the head of Vinny Faherty after a great ball was delivered in by Marc Ludden from the left flank.

With just five minutes to go Galway claimed the three points with the goal coming once again from the head of Faherty.

Conor Melody played a world class long ball deep into he box onto Faherty’s head and the experienced striker nodded the ball under Lee Steacy to claim the victory.
