Galway United secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Cobh Ramblers to get back to winning ways after last Friday's 2-0 defeat away to Shelbourne.

It was a historic night at Eamonn Deacy Park as Alan  Murphy became the home side's all-time leading goalscorer with him scoring his 75th goal for the club.

The record breaking goal came for the Mayo man just before half time from the penalty spot. Cobh's Ian Mylod was given a yellow card for a hand ball, and Murphy duly dispatched the resulting spot  kick which was United's third and final goal of the game.

The Corribsiders opened the scoring on the 17 minute mark through Conor Barry who calmly slotted the ball into the botton left hand corner of the net following a neat assist from Ryan Connolly. Barry would get his and Galway's second five minutes after he capitalised on a mistake in the Cobh defence.

The home side were good value for their three points with them putting in an excellent performance in the first half. The youthful trio of Barry, Carlton Ubaezuonu and Conor Layng, who played up front on his own, in particluar impressed throughout the game.

The second half was a quiet affair, with Galway having already sealed the victory. Cobh meanwhile, have now not won in four league matches.
