Galway United overcame Cabinteely 3-2 at Eamonn Deacy Park courtesy of a brace from Conor Barry and a strike from Eoin McCormack.
It took the Tribesmen 30 seconds to score when McCormack converted from close range after Marc Ludden delivered a cross that Gary Shanahan cushioned into the no.11's path.
After that, the contest hit a lull and it took until the 40th minute for the clash to come to life.
Cabinteely's Joe Doyle put the finishing touch to a breakaway - showing great composure to convert past the on-rushing Tadhg Ryan.
Two minutes later, United restored their lead when Barry popped up to produce a fantastic 35-yard, low-driven strike that beat Stephen McGuinness to see the Corribsiders go 2-1 up.
After the restart, Barry completed his brace when he powerfully side-footed beyond McGuinness from inside the area to make it 3-1. Carlton Ubaezuonu fashioned some great opportunities - coming close with left and right-footed efforts, but he was off target on both occasions.
Late on, Cabo struck through Marty Waters when he pounced on a defensive scramble inside the box - but the hosts held on to emerge 3-2 winners at the full-time whistle.
