Graham Burke's 75th minute penalty saw Shamrock Rovers past Limerick FC at the Markets Field.

As a result of the victory, Rovers move to second place in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table. Burke should have given Rovers the lead early on when Gary Shaw dispossessed Shaun Kelly and delivered an inch perfect cross but Burke headed wide from close range.

Limerick then nearly took the lead when Tomer Chencinski came off his line and was beaten to the ball by Will Fitzgerald but the youngster's resultant shot was cleared off the line.

Rovers had a few chances before the break from set pieces around the Limerick penalty but neither Burke or Sean Kavanagh tested Brendan Clarke. Killian Cantwell came close for Limerick after the break but it was Burke's penalty that decided the game.

Ronan Finn took on Shaun Kelly inside the Limerick penalty area and the right back fouled the Rovers captain. Burke coolly stepped up to fire Rovers into second. Kavanagh was sent off a few minutes later but Rovers comfortably held on for the three points.
