The game was even enough in the first half with Cork just shading it but the home side were well in it at the break after limiting last season's champions to a couple of half chances.
That all changes in the 52nd minute when a raking Conor McCarthy ball over the top deceived the Limerick defence. Kieran Sadlier was on hand to control and brilliantly pull the ball back to the onrushing Buckley, who clinically finished past Brendan Clarke.
Cork dominated from there and made sure of the three points late on when Buckley curled an absolute stunner from the edge of the penalty are into the top corner.
