Limerick and Cork City could not be separated as their Munster Derby at the Markets Field ended 1-1.

A superb run and finish by Billy Dennehy gave Limerick the lead but Cork levelled before the break through a Kieran Sadlier penalty.

Neither side could break the deadlock after the break and Limerick came away with a creditable point against last season's champions.

Cork enjoyed early dominance but it was the home side who went in front on 18 minutes. Billy Dennehy intercepted on halfway and ran unopposed to the edge of the Cork penalty area and unleashed an unstoppable low shot that gave Mark McNulty no chance.

Cork deservedly got back on level terms on 33 minutes when Sadlier sent Brendan Clarke the wrong way from the penalty spot after Darren Dennehy fouled Graham Cummins.

John Caulfield's side had the majority of the possession in the second half but were unable to find a way past a resolute home defence and the game finished 1-1.
