Limerick FC got back to winning ways at home following a 3-1 victory over Longford Town at the Markets Field.

Tommy Barrett's side led 2-1 at the break thanks to goals from Tomas O'Connor and Kieran Hanlon, with Longford's reply coming from Aaron Dobbs.

Limerick then went two in front five minutes into the second half when Lee Devitt broke through and slotted past Lee Steacy and that proved enough to earn all three points.

O'Connor put Limerick ahead on three minutes with a bullet header from Shane Tracy's corner that hit the post and deflected off the Longford keeper and into the net.

Longford were back on level terms on the quarter hour when an excellent Anto Breslin cross was headed in by Dobbs.

However, Limerick were soon back in the ascendancy. Jason Hughes found Shaun Kelly in space on the right with a cross field pass. The Limerick captain then sent the ball in for Hanlon, who made no mistake with a guided finish.

Limerick made a fast start to the second half as well when Karl O'Sullivan nearly capitalized on a defensive mix up only for his lob to drop agonizingly over the bar.

That missed opportunity wasn't punished by Longford as Devitt broke through on goal scored Limerick's third to secure the win.
