Longford Town have recovered from their shock defeat last weekend to beat fellow promotion chasers in the final game before the mid season break.

Sam Verdon's header in the 27th minute was enough to give Neale Fenn's side all three points in a heated battle between two sides that know every point matters in the battle to go up.

McGlade's free kick deep in Drogheda's half on the right was perfect into the middle of the area and Verdon rose highest to head home.

However Longford didn't have it all their own way, Drogheda were on top for most of the first half until Longford's opener. Purdy smashed the ball against the post on the half volley on the edge of the area after Jake Hyland's cut back in the twenty first minute.

Moments after Longford took the lead, Mark Doyle shot from 15 yards out on the left and Kelly pulled off another good save at his near post, pushing the ball onto the woodwork.
