Holders Cork City eased into the semi-finals of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup as they simply had too much for First Division Longford Town at City Calling Stadium.

Despite a tame start, Cork’s patience paid off as they took the lead on 24 minutes when Kieran Sadlier’s corner sailed directly in at the far post.

Four minutes later Jimmy Keohane doubled the lead when shooting low to the net from Shane Griffin’s cross. Karl Sheppard added the third from a 44th minute penalty after he’d been taken down by Longford keeper Jack Brady.

Sheppard was there again six minutes into the second half, racing onto substitute Connor Ellis’s ball over the top to rifle home. Robbie Williams sliced Peter Hopkins’ cross over his own keeper Mark McNulty to gift Longford their goal on 62 minutes.
