Dayle Rooney opened the scoring for Shelbourne in the third minute. Enda Curran then scored a well-taken goal from close range before the same player added a penalty shortly after to give Longford Town a 2-1 interval lead.
Kevin O'Connor then made sure of the win with a long range finish to give a long overdue home victory to the Midlands Club.
