Longford get another win under their belt having beaten their near neighbours Athlone.

There was a shock on the cards early on. Rory McCullough got the scoring underway in the first minute. A bad header from Mick McDonnell fell into McCullough's path.

The opening 20 minutes were quite close between the two sides, but once Longford scored their first, there was no stopping them. Chris Mulhall scored in the 20th minute after seeing his first attempt blocked.

The ball rebounded straight back to him from only a couple yards out and he had no trouble finding the net. Dean Byrne got his first goal of the night in the 35th minute. Mulhall took the ball down well on the edge of the area, turned his man and played a lovely through ball to Byrne and he had no problem finishing past the on rushing Sean O'Donnell.

Six minutes later, and Byrne had his second of the night and Longford's third. Mulhall played the ball in from the right wing. Jake O'Connor made a complete mess of trying to deal with it and sent the ball looping over his own goalkeeper's head.

Byrne latched onto the ball from a couple of yards out to score. Mulhall made it 4-1 before the hour mark. Karl Chambers cross from the right found the inside of the far post. The ball came back out falling to Mulhall's head from a couple of yards out.

The biggest surprise of the night would be that Longford didn't take more chances. Athlone remain bottom and pointless, Longford have rejoined the playoff places on seven points.
