Shamrock Rovers secured a much-needed three points but they made hard work of it despite having an extra man for the majority of the game.

Rover's dominated the first half and when Sligo were reduced to 10 men after John Russell's two-footed lunge on Roberto Lopes, it looked only a matter of time before they took the lead.

They couldn't break the deadlock, however, and the sides went into the break level. The home side again dominated the second half but wasteful finishing and an excellent performance from Michael Schlingermann in the Sligo goal frustrated manager Stephen Bradley.

The Rovers manager will be delighted with the three points but he undoubtedly would have liked to see his side's domination evident on the score sheet.
