A late penalty, won and converted by the prolific Sean Maguire, gave 100% league leaders Cork City all three points at the Tallaght Stadium.

Maguire got in behind Webster in the 86th minute. The Rovers defender took him down and the assistant referee indicated a penalty.

Maguire's spot kick was his second strike of the match. Rovers could feel aggrieved as the home side had dominated the second half. Graham Burke hit the City crossbar with eight minutes left from a Finn free kick and Rovers looked the likely winners at that stage.

Cork City largely bossed the first half and took a deserved early lead inside seven minutes. Tomer Chencinski fumbled a defensive header. Arch poacher Sean Maguire nipped in to dispossess the keeper and stroked the ball into an empty net.

City looked largely untroubled until Conor McCormack inexplicably handled a Ryan Connolly cross. Graham Burke expertly converted the resultant penalty. City's superb start to the campaign continues and the Leesiders move on to a Saturday confrontation with arch rivals Dundalk next week.
