On a cold dry evening at the Tallaght Stadium, Shamrock Rovers continued their winning ways in the Premier Division with a comfortable 2-1 win over a hardworking Waterford.

The Hoops largely controlled the first half and deservedly took a 27th minute lead. Neat build up play sent Trevor Clarke (not for the first time!) clear on the Rovers left.

The overlapping full back’s low cross fell perfectly for Sean Kavanagh (who was playing in a more advanced midfield role). Kavanagh’s low finish eluded the dive of Matt Connor. Rovers almost made it two seven minutes later when the industrious Jack Byrne squared the ball across the six yard box.

Maxi Kouogan managed to clear the ball off the line as Greene was ready to pounce. Trevor Clarke might have got on the scoresheet himself, After a brilliant one two between Byrne and Greene.

Greene's cross found Clarke whose shot just missed the far upright. Blues’ keeper Matt Connor made some decent saves to keep Rovers at bay. However, the Hoops wrapped up the points with a second strike on the three-quarter mark.

The Blues defence managed to clear a Joey O’Brien cross for a corner. Jack Byrne’s left wing kick was deftly headed into the corner by Roberto Lopes, who along with Lee Grace was very impressive in the Rovers defence.

The visitors were restricted to some speculative shots by Bastien Hery and Zak Elbouzedi (who was unlucky with a second half curler that went narrowly wide) until Aaron Drinan netted a neat close range finish with the last kick of the game. But Stephen Bradley’s men march on and the question now has to be who will stop them?
