Shamrock Rovers fought hard to earn a 3-2 win over Finn Harps at Tallaght Stadium on Friday evening.
The Hoops raced into an early lead, through two stunning strikes from David McAllister and Ronan Finn respectively. The game would not run smoothly for the hosts, however, who switched off completely after the break.
McAllister, first, fired his effort in off the underside of Ciaran Gallagher’s crossbar, before Finn followed his example to smash one in from similar range off the post.
Harps came back fighting in the second half, and Caolan McAllen gave them hope as he slotted home Sean Houston’s through ball. Paddy McCourt then levelled with an excellently executed free kick.
Rovers then woke again and clinched it late on. A scrappy moment in the Harps box resulted in the ball dropping from the sky to Simon Madden, who kept cool and elegantly lobbed the ball back to the far corner, where it nestled in the back of the net.
