Shamrock Rovers edged closer to the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title with a 4-0 win over Sligo Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.

The league leaders were tested by an impressive Sligo outfit but Stephen Bradley's side proved to be too strong with goals from Ronan Finn, Graham Burke and Jack Byrne.

The home side took the lead just before the quarter of an hour mark. Ronan Finn's effort from the edge of the area was straight at Ed McGinty but he failed to collect and the ball went over the line.

Seven minutes before the break, Rovers doubled their lead. Byrne is set to link up with the Republic of Ireland squad on Sunday and marked that by providing one of the assists of the season as his perfect ball found Burke. A fantastic ball was well controlled by Burke and he provided the finish.

The points were secured just before the hour mark as Byrne got the goal his play deserved as he rounded off a neat passing move to find the bottom corner.

Rovers added a fourth with 12 minutes remaining as Rhys Marshall got free down the right to find Dylan Watts in the centre and he placed his shot under McGinty to score.
