A Shamrock Rovers side, showing four changes from the Friday night encounter with Dundalk, carved out an impressive 6-0 win over Bray Wanderers at a numbingly cold Tallaght Stadium.

Rovers dominated the opening exchanges without creating very much. A wonder strike by Graham Burke set the Hoops on their way.

Ally Gilchrist played a long ball out of defence in the 27th minute. Sean Kavanagh touched the ball to Burke and the midfielder smashed a 30 yarder that beat Bray custodian Aaron Dillon and flew into the net via the crossbar.

The tie was effectively decided two minutes into the second half. Rovers profited immediately from a switch of wings by Brandon Miele and Sean Kavanagh at the break.

This time Burke set up Kavanagh whose low cross from the right was swept decisively to the net by Miele.

The icing on the Rovers cake was delivered by a further three goals in seven frantic second-half minutes. First David McAllister headed home a Carr cross on 61 minutes.

Trevor Clarke played Carr in for the fourth two minutes later and Kavanagh smashed a 68th minute 20-yard free kick high into Dillon’s net.

The coup de grace was delivered by Miele with his second of the night as the clock ticked into injury time. What a way to secure Rovers first league win of the campaign!
