Shamrock Rovers lifted the SSE Airtricity U19 Enda McGuill Cup after a 4-1 victory over Bohemians at Dalymount Park.
Relentless Rovers eased past 10-man Bohs, defeating the holders 4-1 to claim the Enda McGuill Cup in style.
It didn’t take long for the visitors to settle in the fiesty encounter, taking the lead after just five minutes.
The impressive Martins Olakanye was clipped on the right wing by Katlego Mashigo, and from the resulting free kick, Sinclair Armstrong bullied his was through the Bohs back line to power home a bullet header to give his side the lead.
Just 10 minutes later, the game's major flashpoint occurred. Following a mix up trying to play out from the back, the young Gypsies lost possession.
Luke Kelly then burst into the area and seemed to get a nudge in the back from Mashigo.
Referee Oliver Moran pointed to the spot, showing the Bohemians midfielder a straight red and Luke Kelly made no mistake from 12-yards out.
Now a man down, an uphill battle became an almost impossible climb for the holders, when Man of the Match Darragh Nugent slotted brilliantly past the helpless Sean Bohan from the left hand side of the area to make it three.
To Craig Sexton and his side’s credit, a slight change in formation, introducing Marlon Marishta and playing two up front, paid dividends as the half drew to a close.
And it was Marishta showing good feet on the right hand side of the box to get a yard on his man, cutting back to the edge of the area to fellow substitute Michael O’Keane, who smashed home.
Despite an upturn in performance from the hosts, keeping better possession, the hugely impressive Hoops remained calm and composed, putting the game to bed just after the hour mark.
The original cross was only cleared to the edge of the area to the feet of the classy Darragh Nugent who bent a curler into the top corner.
Shamrock Rovers were crowned the Enda McGuill Cup Champions for 2019 as the senior side head to the Aviva Stadium tomorrow in the hunt for more silverware.
